The Be-Bop Spartans is a nineteen-piece Jazz Orchestra from Michigan State University. They are a young, swinging college band playing the repertoire of the great jazz masters as well as a wide range of soul, swing, blues, and gospel. On Saturday, October 6, 2018, the Be-Bop Spartans will be playing with saxophonist, Melissa Aldana.

Melissa Aldana was born in Santiago, Chile. Aldana has the saxophone in her blood, as her father and grandfather both played the instrument. She began playing herself at a very young age and sprouted into a virtuoso jazz saxophonist as an adult. In 2013, she was the first female musician and the first South American musician to win the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. She’s played at plenty of Jazz festivals including; Panama Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Twin Cities Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz, Vienna Jazz Festival and Providencia Jazz Festival in Chile.  And she’s released two solo albums; Free Fall and Second Cycle.
